[SINOPSE]

Trilogy «Into Their Labours»
from the literary work of John Berger
Directed by Pedro Alves
Premiered on October 27, 2011 at Centro Cultural Malaposta
[SYNOPSIS]
This third performance of the trilogy is based on John Berger's last book of the trilogy, Lilac and Flag (1990), in which the characters are introduced to a completely different location, the metropolis. There, the peasants get lost in a culture that is strange to them, exploited by their bosses, constantly yearning for a return to the rural life they left behind or what they only vaguely remember. In this performance, we follow Zsuzsa and Sucus, two young people, through the streets (tall skyscrapers, slums, gardens, dumps...) of the imaginary city of Tróia - a city that is like any other big metropolis of our time, like Paris, like New York, like Tokyo, like São Paulo, like Lisbon. It is a story of love and resistance in the late 20th century that closes the cycle (or opens a new one) that teatromosca has been dedicating to the English writer John Berger and the themes of rurality and diaspora.
[ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE]
The performance was also presented at the António Silva Municipal Auditorium from November 24th to 26th.

[ABOUT THE TRILOGY «Into Their Labours»]
In his trilogy Into Their Labours (Pig Earth, Once in Europa, and Lilac and Flag), the English writer John Berger documents the lives of peasants in a small village in the French Alps where he moved more than thirty years ago, using a literary style that mixes fiction and non-fiction. With a strong graphic component, the trilogy portrays a world that may be unfamiliar to us, yet still feels familiar as it portrays a peasant culture in which our ancestors lived. In this trilogy, Berger sees himself more than in any of his other works as a storyteller, and it resembles a collection of interconnected stories and tales of popular origin.
